Charlton Feedlot is owned by Elders Limited and is a 23,000hd licensed capacity feedlot situated strategically in Central North Victoria near the township of Charlton. It is built on 740 Hectares and was rebuilt in 1996 to a very high standard of construction using the latest technology in livestock management systems. The feedlot caters for the Elders domestic and export livestock supply requirements and also contract feeds for external parties.
Charlton Feedlot is currently accredited under the National Feedlot Accreditation Scheme (NFAS), CATTLECARE and operates within the guide lines as set out in the Animal Care Statement.
The business is committed to maintaining a Quality Management System that complies with the International Standard for Quality Management ISO 9001:2000.
The Feedlot operates under an Environmental Management Plan, which complies with the National Beef Cattle Feedlot Environmental Code of Practice. Their environmental management is audited each year under the National Feedlot Accreditation Scheme and complies with the international standard for Environmental Management Systems ISO 14001:2004.
Charlton Feedlot’s environmental management maintains the integrity of community amenity, surface and ground water resources and natural ecosystems.
The feedlot has identified five key areas of environmental management. Performance in each of these aspects is continually monitored to ensure the feedlot’s environmental sustainability is constantly improved.
Charlton Feedlot is actively involved in the Australian feedlot, beef and rural industries and currently has a representative on the Australian Lot Feeders Association (ALFA) council. Charlton Feedlot regularly participates in industry trials and to date have completed trials on odour modelling, heat stress and resource usage.

Consistently meets with local & global market requirements as defined by the AUS-Meat system of specification description and, where applicable, Meat Standards Australia.
Meets all Australian food safety standards for beef by managing risks using the HACCP approach, together with meeting the requirements of Cattlecare and the National Feedlot Accreditation Scheme.
2. Providing a work environment that:
Is safe, healthy and pollution free, ensuring all risks are assessed and controlled, and
Promotes continual learning and professional development, using a structured approach that ensures appropriate training will be provided to staff carrying out critical tasks.
In addition to applying continuous improvement principles a Management Committee will annually review the effectiveness of the Quality Management System in meeting all stakeholders’s needs.

HACCP – Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points,
ISO 14001:2004 – Environmental Management Systems,
