ELMS on the ABC

ELMS recently made its big screen debut on the ABC’s popular cooking show, The Cook and the Chef. A sample of ELMS Red Star accredited lamb was delivered to the Hyatt regency in Adelaide by Livestock Central’s Dr Rick White where a group of chefs underwent a blind taste test comparing the Red Star lamb and the current lamb served at the Hyatt’s award winning restaurant. The Red Star lamb came out on top with great raps from the head chef. The ELMS program the lamb underwent was met with a great response from the chefs as it not only improved the taste and quantity of the lamb, but it improved the welfare of the animal during its journey from paddock to plate.

Wycheproof Special Store Sheep Sale, Friday 20th June 2008
20-Jun-2008

A nice cool day at Wycheproof saw a large crowd compete strongly for 10000 quality 1st BL/Mer X and Mer Sheep yarded by Elders Wycheproof, on Friday 20th June 2008.

With the sale 10 to 20 dearer than the last elders Wycheproof sale, with the better lines of ewes & lambs, joined ewes up to 20 to 30 and beyond dearer than recent trends,

Casterton Market Report End of Financial Year Sale
11-Jun-2008

This years annual sale could well be described as very consistant from start to finish, in not only price but also quality of cattle presented. Condition of cattle was mostly in store to forward store, with much of the yarding looking to be going forward with recent pasture growth.
The combined yarding of 2060 cattle was made up of Cows with 4 – 6 week old calves at foot, good lines of steers from 200 kgs to 400 kgs and heifers from 160 kgs to 340 kgs and few numbers of joined females coming forward.
Strong sale support came from South Australia in the regions of Millicent, Meninge, Mount Gambier with representation from Kieth, Penola and Naracoorte. The Victorian support came from Weeribee, Anakie, Heywood, Hamilton and some local producers securing numbers to top up their operations.

Wodonga Market Report 5th June 2008
5-Jun-2008

The original advertised numbers of 4000 swelled in the week leading up to the sale to just over 5000, however this did not deter the large field of buys at the Wodonga monthly store cattle sae conducted by Elders, Corcoran Parker & Landmark.

An unseasonably warmer than normal June day saw an excellent line up of cattle sell exceptionally well from start to finish. As winter is now upon us and feed supplies not in record amounts there was a lot of optimism from buyers that the season will turn and this was certainly reflected in very good prices.

The sale opened strongly with the small number of grown steers ranging from 300 to 430 kg selling very well. Angus weaners were well supplied and the quality must be commented as some of the best Angus weaners seen at the yards this year. Prices for all the weaner cattle certainly exceeded both vendors and buyers expectations. Some regular commission buyers commented that they thought they would be paying 20c/kg less than the going rate on the day. A large number of joined Cows and heifers were presented at the sale and this was mainly dominated by processors as cows prices at fat markets rose in the last week. The heifer portion was also very well represented and these sold very well.

Buyers attended from Benalla, Walcha, Corryong, Yarrawonga, Wagga, Wodonga, Albury, Mansfield, Wangaratta, Holbrook, Trangie, Euroa, Bathurst, Finley, Naracoorte, Myrtleford, Corowa,
